Environmental and Weather Monitoring Datasets in Cyprus
March 15, 2026Dairy livestock management and cheese production in the Mediterranean context.
Data are derived from two different livestock farms in Cyprus with about 500 dairy cows each and a dairy production factory (Cyprus’ largest dairy factory Charalambides-Christes).
With regards to the dairy farms the datasets include: a) historic track-record for each animal in the herd, (breed, date of joining/leaving, daily milk production (including quality/quantity parameters), daily food intake, daily water intake, daily rumination time); b) in-farm and out-farm environmental conditions (hourly recordings of temperature, humidity, wind, pressure, etc.); calculated hourly thermal heat stress index (THI); c) hourly measurements of energy consumption from key equipment in the farm (robotic milking machines, air compressors, fridges, boilers, cooling fans. About 10 energy submetering devices are installed in each farm continuously collecting data. ; d) hourly measurements of energy generated from PhotoVoltaics installed on the roof tops of the farms;
With regards to the dairy factory the datasets include: a) historic data on cheese production (processed milk, produced cheese, data/time) b) overall energy consumption (daily, monthly) c) energy consumption recordings by the systems with the highest consumption (hourly), c) energy production from PVs installed in the roof top of the factory.
The two selected farms act as a paradigm for the about 210 total dairy farms in Cyprus. The datasets are relevant with the agrifood sector in the following context: a) Data-driven decision making towards the optimised use of inputs (food, water, electricity), maintaining animal welfare and estimating milk production, b) milk production datasets shared with the dairy (cheese) production factory to ensure quality standards and production scheduling, c) to facilitate traceability and sustainability assessment reports for the overall production process (e.g. using LifeCycleAssessment methods, generating CSRD).
Datasets are private and originate from a combination of sensors and information systems operating in cow farms and in the dairy production factory.
Parts of the dataset can be made available free of charge for non-commercial scientific, research, and educational use. Any commercial use, including product development, service delivery, internal business operations, or monetized AI model training, requires a separate paid commercial license from the data owner.
